The
Tron Kirk
122 High Street
0131 225 8408
The Tron Kirk was originally built between 1636 and 1647 by John Mylne.
It was truncated in 1785 when the South Bridge and Hunter Square were
developed. The original spire was lost in the fire of 1824, and a new
one was added to replace it in 1828. The local council took ownership
in 1952 and in 1974, the remains of a 16th century close, Marlin's Wynd,
were uncovered beneath the building, including shops and cellars, which
can still be seen. Today the kirk is a visitor centre for the Old Town
and hosts some exhibitions of Scottish art.
