The RSA has a unique position in Scotland as an independent, privately funded institution led by artists and architects, whose sole aim is to promote the visual arts through exhibitions and educational events. As part of this, they administer many scholarships, awards and residencies for artists living and working in Scotland. The Academy also houses a historic collection of important artworks and an extensive archive of related material chronicling art and architecture in Scotland over almost 200 years.
