The Writer's Museum, Lady Stair's House

Built in 1622, the eponymous Lady Stair took ownership of the building in the early 18th century. It was donated it to the city in 1907 for use as a museum. Today it houses the Writer's Museum, devoted to the lives and works of Scotland's most famous writers: Rabbie Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson. Various artefacts, paintings and manuscripts are on show. There is also a programme of temporary exhibits of other Scottish writers and literary themes
