Georgian
House
7 Charlotte Square
0131 225 2160
Work began on Charlotte Square, designed by architect Robert Adam, in
1792 and went on until its completion in 1820. The Georgian House was
built in 1796. The National Trust for Scotland opened the property as
the Georgian House in 1975. Today, the house holds a vivid recreation
of life at the change of the century when it was first built. Visitors
can experience both sides of the coin: the luxury of the upstairs high
society and the "below stairs" life of the servants who were
at their beck and call. There is a touch screen cd-rom as well as the
audio visual programme called "Living in a grand Design" (new,
summer 2005).
