EDINBURGH'S FESTIVALS

Edinburgh International Film Festival
17th - 28th August 2005

Edinburgh's answer to Cannes is not that far below its French cousin in International Film circles. Many European premieres are held here and some of the film world's more hard-to-see gems and unique independent works will also find their first screenings here. Around 6 cinemas throughout the city participate in the event, showing a wide range of films. This year's festival is a mixture of British and international films, including a major retrospective of legendary British director Michael Powell, to mark the centenary of his birth. The Mirrorball section of the festival is celebrating its tenth year as the UK's finest showcase of music promos and advertising. The programme sections include Rosebud, Directors' Showcase, British Gala, Late Night Romps, Document, Retrospective, Black Box, Reel Life and Special Events. The EIFF programme officially launches on 13th July and looks to be one of the strongest line-ups ever.
