EDINBURGH'S FESTIVALS

Edinburgh International Festival
14th August - 4th September 2005

The International Festival has been running since 1947, bringing the cream of the world's art communities to Edinburgh to perform. All acts appear strictly by invitation of the Festival Director and use all of Edinburgh's major theatres and concert halls for the duration of the event. The events cover dance, music, opera and theatre at the highest level, as well as many discussion forums and lectures about the performances. This is the daddy of the Festivals, where you can have some genuine once in a lifetime experiences.
Highlights of the 2005 Festival will include: Pennsylvania Ballet and the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio performing Swan Lake; an evening of Kurdish music from Iran and Iraq; the world premiere of Shan Khan's bitingly funny new play, Prayer Room; the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra; David Harrower's new play, Blackbird, directed by Peter Stein; Scottish Opera performing John Adams' new play, The Death of Klinghoffer; The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and many others, including a free lunchtime recital by students from the City of Edinburgh Music School on Thursday 25th August at 1.00pm in St Mary's Cathedral.

The whole thing ends with a bang on 4 September with a massive Fireworks display over Edinburgh Castle.
