Without, literally, busting a gut, one man
could not keep on top of the Edinburgh restaurant scene. So, last year,
in association with the Edinburgh Restaurateurs' Association, I set up the
E.R.A. Capital Restaurant Awards to help. Restaurants sign up, one of our
handpicked review teams of regular Edinburghers goes to visit, and they
fill out a report for the restaurant. They score them out of 100, and the
top four restaurants in each of three price categories, based on the price
of a two course meal for two plus a bottle of house wine, are shortlisted
for an award. Those four are revisited to pick a Gold Award winner in each
category. All the winners are indicated throughout. The writeups here are
either direct from the reviewers, or made up from their notes. Don't forget
to check out the Leith section, too, for their selection of culinary attractions!
