Deacon
Brodie's Tavern
435 Lawnmarket
0131 225 6531
Deacon Brodie was the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr Jekyll
and Mr Hyde. One of Edinburgh's most infamous figures, he led a moralistic,
model citizen lifestyle by day and at night put on a mask and robbed the
fine people of Edinburgh. When he was caught he was hung using gallows,
which he had been designing a replacement for! Proof that what goes around
comes around. The pub itself is very popular with tourists and is a great
place for food as well as a drink.
