EDINBURGH'S FESTIVALS

Edinburgh's Capital Christmas
24th November - 25th December 2005

I love Christmas. Princes Street on a snowy winter's day, with the lights in the trees and people bustling around the shops is a sight to behold. A few years back, the city started putting on some special events, like a giant Ferris wheel, a German Christmas market and an ice skating rink in Princes Street Gardens, which has evolved into a fabulous Winter Wonderland. It all kicks off with the switching on of the lights on Princes Street, and the centrepiece is when Santa comes to town, "flying" into Festival Square to take the keys to the city from the Lord Provost, so he can get into houses without chimneys. For two weeks, Princes Street Gardens also host Santa's Reindeer Garden, where Santa feeds live reindeer twice a day, as he collects mail from his post box.
