Museum
of Childhood
42 High Street
Royal Mile
0131 529 4142
Opened in 1955, this was the first museum anywhere in the world to specialise
in the history of childhood. "The noisiest museum in the world"
has five galleries holding a treasure trove of memories for all ages.
Toys and games from all over the world, including dolls, teddy bears,
train sets and tricycles are there as well as recordings of a 1930's schoolroom
and film of Edinburgh children playing in the street in 1951. You can
also learn about how children were brought up, dressed and educated in
years gone by. This is one museum where no one is going to tell you to
"hush"!
